Pictures of Castles

A guide in pictures to medieval castles in England, Wales, Ireland and Europe

Pictures of Abergavenny Castle

Abergavenny castle once belonged to the notorious William de Braose. The remains of the surrounding walls probably date from Braose's time in the 12th century.

Only the walls of two towers remain. Remains of a third tower are now part of a house at the base of the castle mound.

Abergavenny castle is one of my favourite castles. Even though there are no towers to climb. The bright red tree in the middle of the castle and all the flower in the walls make it one of the more beautiful castles I've visited.

Abergavenny castle is located at the edge of Abergavenny. The town lies on the border of the Brecon Beacons and the castle is located near the river.

There is a nice view of the castle from the banks of the river Usk.

A small museum building, which is a much later addition, stands just outside the medieval castle remains.
